Johnny Weir is one of the top hopefuls for the Games, and in December he placed third at the Grand Prix Final. Johnny is a three-time U.S. Champion and has a reality show Be Good Johnny Weir that premiered in January on the Sundance Channel. Although all of this attention may be new - and possible unwelcome - to an introverted and reserved Cancer like Johnny, his imagination and sensitivity make him an excellent choice to finish at the top in this emotional, moving sport.
Alpine Skiing
There may be some Olympic sports where the underdogs have a chance, but with two former champions coming back for another go, we think these two are going to be a force to be reckoned with - again!
Bode Miller won his second overall World Cup title in four years in 2008, after also winning the title in 2005, so he's definitely on a roll. Bode is a Libra, which means he is extremely balanced - an important attribute for any skier. Add to that the fact that Libra is an Air sign, meaning Bode is always reaching higher to achieve his goals. It seems that this sport was tailor-made for Mr. Miller, and that there's little standing in his way of obtaining top honors again.
As the first American woman to win back-to-back overall World Cup championships (2008 and 2009), Lindsey Vonn is a likely choice to win the gold this year. If you look at her chart, it becomes even more obvious that she's destined for greatness at this year's Winter Games. Like Bode, Lindsey is also a Libra, with balance as the key to staying on those skies and excelling at her sport. With her Moon in ambitious and spotlight-loving Leo, she excels when her pride is on the line.
Snowboarding
The "Flying Tomato" - AKA Shawn White - is always a valuable asset to the U.S. team, but he's become rather unpredictable as of late. The team is still strong, though, and the following athletes should rule!
Hannah Teter was raised by her snowboarding family in Vermont, and she's known for her consistent, technically accurate riding. As a logical and perceptive Aquarius, this sport suits her well, and she won a gold medal in the women's halfpipe competition at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Italy. We predict that it's in the stars that this Airy Aquarius will bring home the gold once again!
Seth Wescott is a triple Cancer, which on the surface may seem like too sensitive a soul to excel at such an adrenaline-inducing sport, but if we look at the other characteristics of Cancer - imaginative, quiet, and calm - we see that he has what it takes to hold his own under pressure. Seth began snowboarding at age 10. He won a bronze medal at the Winter X Games XI and a gold medal in Snowboardcross at its 2006 Winter Olympics debut in Italy, plus multiples silver and bronze medals in the Winter X Games. We see him adding another medal or two to his collection!
Speedskating - Long Track
Shani Davis is a flamboyant Leo who was born to be in the spotlight, so it should be no surprise to see his name on this list! Shani became the first black athlete to win a gold medal in an individual Winter Games sport in 2006, and he has set a total of eight world records. He's been training hard and is in great shape, and with his Moon in versatile and quick-witted Gemini, he makes an interesting guy to follow on and off the track.
Speedskating - Short Track
Apolo Anton Ohno might be one of the most recognizable Olympic athletes of recent times, and with good reason - he's a five-time Winter Olympics medalist (two gold, one silver, and two bronze) and is one of only four Americans who has won three medals in a single Winter Olympics game. Apolo is a triple Gemini, which means he's versatile, quick, and lively, and these traits definitely help him move around the track. His chart also contains the Sun trine Mars aspect, which gives him the powerful bursts of energy he needs to help him cross that finish line ahead of his competitors.
Good luck to all the athletes... let the Games begin!
